Hikes, Adventures, Vacations
Welcome to Dave and Cindy's photo album. Herein are pictures from various personal activities such as hikes,
vacations, adventures, and family time.
May 4, 2016 was the date for this year's Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim (R2R2R)
in the Grand Canyon. That makes one each calendar year for 29 consecutive years. Three of those, the 1st, 2nd, and 9th (1988, 1989, 1996) were
3-day trips with a full rest day spent on the North Rim before walking back. The remaining 26, including this one, have been single day events
or at least completed within 24 hours.
This year's hike seemed a little tougher, both physically and mentally. I probably wasn't as well-trained as usual and therefore suffered a little
more. A few times on the way to the North Rim, I had the urge to abort and turn back. Walking the first 5 hours by flashlight on a moonless night
didn't help. I began the hike in the middle of the night in order to hopefully finish in time to get cleaned up before the shower facility
closes at 10pm. Largely due to less intense training, this year's crossing to the North Rim took about 9-1/2 hours and the entire round-trip took
about 21 hours, making it one of my slowest. An additional drain on time, I also took a small video camera on this year's trip. The resultant 5
minute Youtube video can be seen here:
