In June and July of 1997, Cindy and I celebrated our marriage with a two-week road trip (honeymoon) through Nevada, California and Oregon.
Following are some of the highlights from the first part of our trip, which includes everything up to a Mt. Whitney dayhike.

Great Basin National Park, Nevada
This was our first stop, not counting the 3 hours we spent in Las Vegas.   Great Basin National Park is a classic "sky island", a localized mountain range lying
in the middle of the Great Basin.   We took the 4 mile trail to the summit of Wheeler Peak, which at 13,063' is the high point in the park.

Lassen Volcanic National Park, California    This park showcases 10,457' Lassen Peak, which is the
Southern most of the Cascade volcanoes.   Cindy and I climbed to the summit through patches of snow on a well-travelled 3 mile trail.

Northern California Seashore and Redwoods     We spent a few days along the coast
of Northern California, just a few miles from the Oregon border.   These were cool-weather leisurely days that included walks along the beach and a walk
through a giant redwood forest.

Jedediah Smith State Park |
Yosemite National Park, California     Yosemite offered the nicest weather and the most magnificent scenery.
In Yosemite Valley, we climbed the Four-Mile trail to Glacier Point for a terrific view of Half Dome and surrounding high-country peaks..
We returned to the Valley floor via the Mist trail, which brought us impressively close to stunning waterfalls.
