Following our half-day hike on the South Kaibab trail, the weather cleared and the day became pleasant. Our group (Millie and Ralph Wyant, Kay and Lyle Clark, Cindy and Dave Wyant) set off for some sightseeing along the rim. A short walk along the rim west of the Bright Angel trailhead, brought us to Trailview Overlook where one can look down on nearly every section and every switchback of the Bright Angel trail above Indian Gardens.

After soaking in the views at Trailview Overlook, we caught the West Rim shuttle and rode a couple of miles farther west to spectacular Hopi Point, which provides a true panaromic vista of the Canyon at its grandest. A team from the Condor Project - Peregrin Fund was there searching for California Condors. Their radio antenna indicated that condor #24 (or whichever) was somewhere out to the northwest and they were searching through binoculars to locate it. They didn't find it while we were there and neither did we.

After our day of hiking and sightseeing at the South Rim, we enjoyed a "victory dinner" at the Bright Angel Lodge before turning in. The next day would be a full one. We would be driving back to Phoenix with stops along the way at the Arizona SnowBowl and Sedona. Continue on to our Skyride page for photos from our ride up the ski lift.
